About this campaign

Congenital Heart Defect is the most common and deadly disease in the U.S. yet CHD research is grossly under funded relative to the prevalance of the disease. Little is known about the cause and there is no known prevention or cure. Let's help raise money for life saving research!

Oct. 29. 2012 my son Joel was diagnosed with truncus arteriosus at one week of age. It never crossed our minds that one of our children will ever be born with such defect. To be honest we had such little knowledge about CHD. But it was real it was happening and we had no choice but to face it. On Nov.5.2012 at 2 weeks old our son had his first open heart surgery. After 8 long hours of surgery he had his first truncus repair. Joel recovered pretty well after 2weeks we were finally able to go home one week before Thanksgiving. However following his heart condition he was diagnosed with laryngomalacia and left vocal cord paralysis. He is now 2yrs old and had one cardiac catheterization done this past Nov.4 and has a second heart surgery pending. Unfortunately he will need more surgeries in the future. Our lives have not been the same since then, but i prefer to have this hectic life style and still be able to hold my son!
