About this campaign

Little Light israising funds to distribute care packages to our local children's hospital in Kansas City to those children inpatient due to congenital heart defects (CHD)as well as care packages for those families who have lost their CHD warrior. Hospital life is a difficult road, and we are looking to brighten the faces of the parents and children with these care packages.

Little Light was founded in February 2014. Our third child was prenatally diagnosed with a very severe Congenital Heart Defect (CHD)called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome as well as an intact atrial septum. We had an in-utero heart procedure done in July 2013, which was successful, but we ended up going into preterm labor 4 days later. We delivered Karalyn on July 21, 2013, at 31+2 weeks gestation. Due to her CHDs, her lungs were too underdeveloped, and the doctors were not able to gether lungs toopen with either CPR or the ventilator. Karalyn's heart beat for an hour before she died, but she never took a breath. We have started Little Light in her memory. We had an outpouring of support throughout our journey and after Karalyn's death, and we hope to give back to the CHD community by providing support to other heart families as they travel the difficult road that is CHD-supporting both CHD warriors and angels. I lost my son to HLHS in February of 2013, he was just shy of 4 months old. I know how important support for families is and how much this means to them. This is a wonderful idea and I hope to be able to do something similar in honor of my son Cooper.
